Why hypnobirthing?
In my practice I have always been fascinated by the role emotions have to play in pregnancy and the importance of addressing an individual’s state of mind when approaching childbirth. Acupuncture has helped me support women in calming their system, taking them out of freeze fight or flight mode into a relaxed sense of calm. I feel this ties in perfectly with the hypnobirthing philosophy which utilizes the power of the mind providing fantastic tools and techniques to cope with childbirth.
I decided to train in hypnobirthing in the leadup to having my daughter in 2020. This all coincided with the first few months of Covid19. The thought of having my first baby in a pandemic filled me with great fear as there were so many unknowns about the situation. I had struggled for many years to fall pregnant and found the whole pregnancy so nerve wracking. I was always anticapating the worst, as for many years it felt like I was constantly delivered bad news.
However after practicing and learning all about hypnobirthing, my mindset had completely changed and I felt positive and excited to give birth. My birth had it’s fair share of twists and turns, and often people ask me whether the hypnobirthing actually worked? Yes it certainly did! It may not have been what others would have wished for, but it definitely served itself as a brilliant tool throughout my labour and really helped me at the most challenging points where I felt fully capable at making informed decisions every step of the way. My birth partner also knew how to support me as he had learnt the hypnobirthing with me. He was able to help me get through some very difficult decisions as well as remind me to breathe! Never did we feel rushed or pushed into any decisions, and I truly believe that going into the birth informed made a huge difference.
Currently I teach couples 1-2-1 and I am offering the courses online to those who live outside of Adelaide. In the hypnobirthing training, you and your birth partner will learn breathing techniques, visualisations and fear release techniques. I aim to build the confidence of the mother and their birthing partner to make informed choices, helping them come away feeling like they had a positive birth experience.
